A Machine That Cleans the Air

CX22

„The best and most powerful CX ever made“

The successor model of the smoke eradication machine CX22 presents an approach to on-site air purification. Rather than addressing the root causes of air pollution, the third-generation series allows existing production methods and lifestyles to remain unchanged. Industrial activity can continue, individual mobility persists, and everyday habits do not need to be reconsidered, while the vital resource of “clean air” appears to remain protected.

The machines are inspired by La zizanie by Claude Zidi, which introduced a futuristic “smoke eradication machine.” Originally conceived as a response to the environmental challenges of increasing industrialization, this concept is reinterpreted in a contemporary context. In light of the ongoing lack of global consensus on climate policy, the idea that technological innovation alone could solve complex environmental issues appears more relevant and more questionable, than ever.

This raises a critical question for the observer: does the machine actually solve the problem, or is it itself part of the problem? In their current form, the machines are not intended as functional technical solutions but as artistically provocative sculptures placed in public space. With their technical aesthetic and deliberately staged emissions, the CX22 installations draw attention to the issue of air pollution.

Multiple units can be installed across different locations, forming a recognizable spatial network. They are most effective when placed in areas with particularly high levels of pollution, such as heavily trafficked streets or industrial zones.

The machines are designed to be low-cost and easy to construct. Their structures consist of simple profiles and construction timber, covered with panels such as sheet material or weather-resistant plywood. Additional technical components can be sourced online or collected locally from scrap materials for reuse.
